Does SEO happen over night? Simple answer, NO. Many people are still not keyed up on SEO and do not understand that it is a very long project to be ranked on the first page of Google for your keywords. Many people have or use Google AdWords where their website is displayed on the 1st page almost immediately but you need to remember, you are paying for that placement, as soon as you stop paying, you are not on the first page. Natural SEO listings are completely different.

There are many factors in how Google ranks your website and there are even more factors to consider on the best approach to your SEO campaign.

Domain Age

If your website is brand new then your SEO will need to start at a slow pace because your website has no authority with Google. With SEO you need to build up that authority with Google to rank your website, slowly. You cannot create 100′s of links every week from day one as Google will just see this as spam and unnatural. Your links need to be built up slowly and over a period of time.

Even if your domain is 10 years old an SEO company cannot build you 100′s of links per day, especially if your site has never had any SEO performed on it in the past, again it needs to be built up slowly. But because your domain has a good age we can shorten the gap. With a good age domain the first few weeks of link building will be slow but then we can kick it up a gear and go at your SEO 100%. This will keep your inbound marketing looking natural.

Companies with brand new websites need to understand that SEO and first page rankings will take time, usually, depending on your keywords, around 2-3 months.

Your Keywords

Going for highly competitive keywords with a brand new website is not going to happen as mentioned, your website has no authority with Google so they will not replace your website with an older, established website on their listings. The best way to precede with your SEO keywords is to select slightly less completive keywords. For example, if the keyword you want to be ranked for is ‘Web Design’ the best keyword to go for is ‘Small Business Web Design’. This is less competitive but still has a good amount of searches each month so it will be easier and quicker to be ranked for. This will make your site established on Google, and then you can go for more competitive keywords such as ‘Web Design’ after around 6 months of your SEO campaign starting.

Quality Content

The best way to get your site known to Google is by creating high quality, unique, relevant content on all the pages on your website. This is what Google wants to see when placing websites highly on their search results. Having a blog which is added to daily with latest news within your industry is a perfect way to make Google take note of your website.

Google Analytics

Have Google Analytics installed on all your pages so you are able to monitor what is happening when visitors are on your site. You can see what keywords users search for to find your website and more importantly, the bounce rate and how long people stay on your site. Ideally the average bounce rate should be no higher then 30%, if this is higher then i would suggest updating the layout and content on the page so people will stay on your site and visit other pages. The same applies to the time the user stays on your site. The average should be around 3 minutes, any lower than this, look for improvements.
