Your on page optimisation is highly important for ranking your website on the searches. Depending on the keywords you would like to focus on it could be more beneficial to your rankings then link building its self. The main point to remember with your onsite SEO UK is the user experience.

You need to put the user first when designing and optimising your website. It is not what you like the look of or how you like the functionality of your site, it is what the user likes. They are the ones buying your products or services so please keep that in mind whilst optimising and designing your web pages.

Optimising your Meta Tags

When writing your Meta Tags do not keep repeating this keyword as Google will see you are keyword stuffing and only use the first keyword in your Meta Title to show on their results. For example, if you have the below in your Title:

Google will see this as spam and will only show the below in their results:

Instead use different variants of the keyword and also treat your meta title as an advert for people to visit your site because after all, it is an advert for your company to get them to visit your site. This is what we would use:

This still contains your keywords and is also a great advert for users to click on your site. You should also write your Meta Description in the same sort of way. Treat it as an advert and not a way to spam keywords.

Structure of your Web Page

Google will read your website in sections. To start with they will look at the header of your web page. This should be a H1 tag with a short headline about your website which contains your keyword. This will tell Google exactly what your web page is about. There is no point trying to add keywords into your sidebar links your navigation links at the top of your page as the search engine spiders will not see these as important content for your site. Instead focus on main content in the centre of your page where all your information is. To start with have a nice flowing structure to your content. The best way to set your web page content out is by imagining your content is a newspaper article.

- You have your main headline which will be your H1 tag.

- You will have a brief description about the article which will be about your services/products.

- You will have a sub header which will be your H2 tag

- Then your will have the main content of the article which will be your content about your products/services. You can break your main content down with other sub headings using H3, H4 tags and so on.

This is a perfect flowing structure to your web page and the search engine spiders can read your content easily.

What to put in your Content

The most important point to remember in your content is that it needs to be 100% unique. Google does not want to see duplicate content on their results, so if your web page is duplicate, they will not rank your website. Do not spam your website with your keywords. You have already got a perfect flowing structure for your SEO UK content so do not ruin it by keyword stuffing. Your content needs to read and flow as if you were reading a book. Google can and will pick up on keyword stuffing and if an article does not read correctly or if it has been spun, so it is highly important your write your content to a very high quality as this will help your rankings no end.

Your content needs to be set on a theme and most be written about that theme, obviously your theme will be on your products or services you are offering. Instead of repeating your keyword over and over again throughout your content try using different variants of your keyword and also anything that is associated to that word. Google are not stupid! They know what words mean and what they are associated to! SEO MOZ have done a very good Whiteboard Friday that covers the use of supporting keywords for Advanced On-Page Optimization. They used an example of the keyword/theme as ‘CATs’. Google will pick up that words such as meow, feline, what they eat, CAT etc so use close relating phrases. Google will know your article is about CATS.

Also the more content on the web page the better. If your site is full of high quality content all focused on the theme of your site Google will pay far more attention to ranking your website over another site which just contains pages of snippets.

Linking Out

Again going back to the SEO MOZ Whiteboard Friday post, there have been some benefits in putting links out from your web page to relevant websites. They mentioned they have seen increased rankings by posting relevant outbound links and also the other website will see in their Analytics that their visitors are coming from your website, they might give you a backlink from their website or mention you on Twitter or any other social media.
