Internal linking within your website is not as important as it used to be a few years ago but it does have its advantages. The main advantage is it tells the search engines what keywords your website should be ranked for but it does hold very little weight.
When your writing your blog or extra pages within your site most people insert an anchor link within their text for their main keyword thinking this will help with their rankings for that keyword, yes and no. Yes, it does hold a very very small amount of weight, and i mean tiny! Doing this does tell Google what you would like to be ranked for but it doesnt actually rank your website. However, it does hold weight if you are writing about that keyword and your article is focused on that keyword.
If you are writing a blog and adding more and more unique content to your site about that keyword, Google will see the theme of your website is focused on this keyword and it will increase your rankings. This is not because of the anchor link you have placed within your blog, it is the relevant content about that keyword which will help your rankings.
For example, when performing your SEO UK you need to keep adding relevant, unique content to your site, ideally on a daily basis. Around 300-500 words is ideal. If your main keyword is ‘Wedding Dress’ you should write your blogs about Wedding Dresses. Do not focus too much on keyword density as you do not want to spam your content with your keyword. In a 300 word post try and mention ‘Wedding Dress’ 3-4 times and use one of these as your anchor text. Do not just put these keywords anywhere for the sake of it, make sure your content reads right and has a good flow. As mentioned it will not improve your rankings much by doing this but it tells the search engine spiders when crawling your page what your post is about.
Another important thing to remember when placing internal links within your site for your SEO UK campaign is Google only pays attention to the first link in your code. So if you have a menu at the top of your page that says ‘Home’ and it links to your homepage, Google will take this link first as it is higher up in your code and ignore the anchor link you have placed further down within your text.
