Choosing the correct keywords for your Local SEO campaign is important for having your website ranked on the 1st page of Googles results. Many people are losing out on 1000′s of extra visits every month just because their SEO company has not researched your industries keywords correctly. Some SEO companies choose less competitive keywords to get ranked just because they are very easy to get ranked. There is a reason why these keywords are easy to rank, nobody searches for them!
When selecting your keywords for your Local SEO campaign first look on Google Keyword Tool. This software tells you roughly how many people are searching for your keyword each month and how competitive it is.
When you select your first keyword you need to see what each searched for the most. For example, if you are an Accountant company based in Dartford, your first main keyword would be ‘Accountants Dartford’. Now, a common mistake would be to go down the list of results in Google Keyword Tool and pick the highest searched for keywords, this is not correct. You have already picked the highest searched for keyword, ‘Accountants Dartford’, this should be your template for your remaining 4 keywords.
You cannot just optimise your website for one keyword, as all of your backlinks will be for the same keyword and Google will see this as spamming your website with links, so, you need quality supporting keywords for your main keyword. Supporting keywords are all based on your selected main keyword, this will boost your rankings quicker and will not spam your site. It will also rank you for your supporting keywords as they will assist each other as they are all on the same theme. Your 4 supporting keywords would be:
2. ‘Accountant Dartford’
3. ‘Accountants in Dartford’
4. ‘Accountant in Dartford’
5. ‘Dartford Accountants’
As you can see the look very similar but in Googles eyes they are completely different keywords. If you use the above keywords you will see different sets of results for each keyword.
