The DOs and DONTs for SEO Link Building – Part 2

Published on 25/11/2011 by in Local SEO

Following yesterdays post we will continue to discuss where to get the highest quality backlinks for your website to push your site on the first page of Google for your keywords. We will give you examples for your main keywords and also high quality supporting keywords. You can use Google Keyword Tools to find the best keywords for your website along with the monthly search volumes and how competitive the keyword is.

As mentioned yesterday link and article directories do not hold any weight with the quality of your links. So, where do you get the best quality links from your site? There are a few methods you can use to gain the highest quality backlinks.

1. Type in your main keyword in Google and view the top ranking websites. You can check where they are receiving their links from by using any Backlink Checker website, just type it in Google. You cannot use Yahoo Site Explorer anymore as they have merged Site Explorer into Bing Webmaster Tools. You will be able to see all the websites your competitor gets their links from and also the keywords in their site. One method can be going through some of this list and trying to link your website within theirs. DO NOT try and make a carbon copy of their links. Only go after around 20%-25% of the highest quality sites on the list, then go back to your Google search results for your keyword and do the same. This can be very drawn out but it is the best way to receive the highest quality links as your competitors websites are ranked high for your keywords.

2. Search in Google a more broad search for your keywords and repeat the above process. This way you will also receive high quality supporting keywords for your website. It is important that you do not only focus on one keyword as you will end up spamming your website. High quality supporting keywords will boost your main keywords. For example, if your main keyword is ‘Accountants Manchester’ your supporting keyword would be ‘Manchester Accountants’, ‘Accountants in ‘Manchester’ etc. I would suggest having a minimum of 5 keywords including your main and supporting keywords.

3. Use a Local SEO company to optimise your website and your link building campaign. Unfortunately there are 1000′s of SEO companies in the UK and 98% of these companies do not have a clue to ranking your website on Google, so the chances are you will lose your money and not have your website ranked anywhere.

So how do i find the correct Local SEO Company? On Monday we will go through the questions you need to ask your SEO company.
